Parked in the little parking lot for our house is our very own Volkswagen Westfalia!
She has a brand new horn, ball-joint, and back light and she has been deemed safe to drive – I should know, I drove her home! It was pouring rain, cold and damp, but her wipers were flashing back and forth and I couldn’t have been happier! Steve drove in front of me and every time we stopped at a stop light, he turned to look back, the same foolish grin mirroring mine, and we waved to each other.
It felt like I imagine a bus would feel to drive. It has a great big round steering wheel, and you feel high up above everything around you.
We’re going to register her under my name. She’ll be mine on paper! I’ve never owned a vehicle before. I always joke to Steve that I got a pretty great deal out of marrying him – I got a husband, a house, and a car all at once! But because of that, I’ve never bought a home or a vehicle myself. It’s exciting to be going through such a process for the first time – although I will admit that most of the time it just feels like a pain-in-the-butt with all the hoopla you have to go through to buy a used vehicle. But the sale is almost complete! On Monday we are heading out with the Westy to the previous owners’ home and they are going to show us everything we need to know about her.
I know I promised inside pictures, but it is so miserable and cold out today that I don’t want to take my good camera out to take them. The pictures above are from Steve’s iPhone, taken quickly with an umbrella held very precariously in one hand that was also steadying his phone. Soon, I’ll take you on a tour 🙂
