I’ve tried out many nicknames for Steve since I met him, and none of them has really stuck. But over the past few weeks, travelling and facing many challenges, there’s one nickname that just fits so well and seems to be sticking around for good –
Because let’s face it, anyone who looks into a fridge full of maggots and doesn’t run in the other direction, is a Wonder! At least to me.
And so, because my Wonder Boy has left me today, gone off in a plane to Las Vegas for a bachelor party, I wanted to blog about something so very Steve.
First, you should know that we are in Phoenix, Arizona right now (well, I am, and Steve was, up until this morning). We drove straight from Austin to here – the whole 16+ hours! We took shifts, getting an hour or two of sleep here and there. This is as much due to the fact that we were already a day late in getting to Phoenix and didn’t want it to be any longer, as it was to our fridge fiasco – I was not ready to sleep in the Love Bus so soon after it had been home to something so disgusting. My nightmares are very bug-filled these days.
That said, we did manage to each sleep a bit while the other drove. Steve was driving as we got into Arizona and he remembered that he’d seen a documentary once about a place in Arizona where airplanes go to rest or die – the Pinal Airpark. Well wouldn’t you know it, he drove right by it! And boy was he excited about it. I bet it took all the restraint in the world not to drive up to their heavily guarded gate and gush about how great it would be if he could go inside and have a look around. I know, at least, that it took a lot of restraint not to wake me up right then and share about what we were driving past.
I am married to a man who is passionate about airplanes. I think that’s pretty cool 🙂
