Even though we live in the city we get a lot of wildlife in our tiny backyard, especially because we have a bird-feeder. We’re actually lucky enough to have some cardinal couples living in the area year-round. The striking red of the males looks gorgeous against the backdrop of snowy branches. A week or so ago I noticed some droppings all over our backyard that looked like deer poop – piles of round pellets. I knew it couldn’t be a deer but I couldn’t figure out what else it could be.
It turns out it’s a rabbit. This thought had occurred to me – we do get lots of bunnies in the Spring – but having owned a rabbit the poop looked way too big. Well it’s a big rabbit!
Also about a week or so ago we started noticing Dante camped out at our back window every single night. We couldn’t imagine what he could possibly be seeing at night in the backyard, but there he was every evening, holding vigil. Turns out he was spending hours waiting for the bunny to show up.
Hobbes has no interest. He’ll take a peek to see what all the fuss is about but then he settles up in his cat tree, preferring instead to keep an eye on Dante.
